The drawing, painting and printmaking portfolio development course is designed to support students looking to create a competitive and innovative portfolio of work, with supporting sketchbooks.

Aimed at school students who aim to build a portfolio, mature individuals who are looking to explore education to develop knowledge and skills as well as industry professionals who are keen to further develop skills. We welcome individuals from a range of backgrounds and will support individuals to reach their fullest potential.

We take a personal, project-based approach to this course, allowing you the flexibility to choose your own themes. You will develop skills and confidence within a dynamic, hands on and collaborative learning environment.

Initially, learning will focus on observational and secondary observational drawing, drafting, and drawing from imagination. Life drawing and portfolio production will also be key elements for exploration. As the course progresses, students will translate ideas using paint, mixed media application and printmaking.

  • Portfolio production
  • Painting: exploratory techniques
  • Developmental drawing 
  • Printmaking and producing print

Day and time: Weekly, Wednesdays, 6pm to 9pm

Start date:  2 October 2024

End date: 18 June 2025

Course length: 32 weeks

Delivery mode: Blended. Three hours of face to face study on campus, supported by one hour of independent learning via Brightspace, our virtual learning environment, per week. 

SCQF level: This course represents 30 SCQF credits and is delivered at SCQF level 7.

No formal entry qualifications are required but applicants should be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of art and design related disciplines.

Course fee: £344

You could be eligible for financial support to pay your course fee if you earn less than £25,000 per annum and meet residency criteria. Find out more about the Student Awards Agency Scotland Part Time Fee Grant.

If you are not eligible for the part time fee grant, you may take advantage of paying your course fees in instalments. Payment can be spread over 3 months, with the first payment of approximately £115 payable before starting the course.
